The Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program has been designed to provide experiences that will prepare you for a career in private practice, a specialist in academic Medicine, or a team physician.

The Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine established a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2006. It is a challenging, 12-month ACGME-accredited fellowship, providing comprehensive clinical and academic training. By completing the program, fellows will gain experience in diagnosing and treating injuries and illnesses common to athletes and other active individuals. Successful completion of the program prepares the fellow to satisfactorily complete the examination for Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine.

Fellows will work directly with UofL NCAA Division I athletes in all sports. The Fellow is provided the opportunity to learn from and serve the community through providing medical care as Team Physician for local high schools, working with professional sports teams such as the Louisville Bats, Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC. Dedicated patient care will be provided in our Sports Medicine Institute

The faculty is committed to advancing the field of sports medicine and expects that same level of commitment from our fellows, therefore the year is designed to be busy in order to provide an outstanding experience and excellent preparation for life beyond training.
