Spine Fellowship

The Department of Neurological Surgery is proud to provide this CAST-approved fellowship for those looking to train under world-class faculty in an affordable and vibrant city.

Overview

The Department of Neurosurgery's Spine Fellowship is a CAST-approved, 12-month combined research and clinical fellowship. It is designed for individuals in their final years of a U.S. residency program, or who have completed a U.S. neurosurgical residency and are contemplating a career or subspeciality in spinal neurosurgery.  

Program Details

This 12-month fellowship provides advanced training in spinal trauma, minimally invasive spine surgery, cutting-edge research opportunities and more.
Curriculum
Our spine fellows train under world-class faculty, receiving extensive exposure to spinal trauma, minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal cord injury management and more.
Facilities
Housed inside the Frazier Rehabilitation Institute, our fellows rotate through multiple leading facilities, including UofL Hospital and Jewish Hospital to get hands-on experience from distinguished faculty.

As the home of Muhammad Ali, Louisville Slugger and the Kentucky Derby, the city offers countless attractions, restaurants, parks and more to entice foodies, arts fans and outdoor enthusiasts.

Application and Interview Process

Applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to interview with the program director, Thomas Altstadt, along with other faculty directly involved in the fellowship’s curriculum.
