Glasgow Family Medicine Residency

A Legacy of Excellence in Family Medicine

Since its establishment in 1997, our Glasgow Family Medicine Residency Program has been dedicated to training physicians in a comprehensive, community-based environment. The program is deeply integrated into the rural healthcare landscape, providing essential services to a patient base of over 200,000 across multiple counties. Our residents gain hands-on experience in various medical settings, including critical care, emergency medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics, fostering a holistic approach to family medicine.

Comprehensive Training in Diverse Settings

We offer personalized, one-on-one instruction with dedicated faculty and comprehensive exposure to every aspect of hospital care, including critical care and emergency services. Residents benefit from rotations at leading institutions such as Norton Children’s Hospital while also gaining invaluable experience in rural and underserved communities. This diverse training environment prepares graduates to provide exceptional, patient-centered care in any setting.

One-on-One Instruction

At the Glasgow Family Medicine Residency, nearly all rotations are spent directly with attending physicians, giving residents unparalleled mentorship and hands-on experience. Family Medicine residents have full access to all areas of the hospital, including the intensive/critical care unit, emergency room, pediatric wards, newborn nursery, endoscopy, labor and delivery and same-day surgery.

Rural Expertise

Our residency emphasizes rural health, training physicians to care for a community spanning several counties and nearly 200,000 people. As the only residency program based at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, we provide unique opportunities to serve in a rural setting. Four-week clerkship blocks are also available to third- and fourth-year medical or osteopathic students upon request, as space allows.

Focused on Families

The T.J. Samson Family Medicine Center is dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive care for patients of all ages—from newborns to older adults. Residents also gain specialized pediatric experience through two rotations at Norton Children’s Hospital during their first year, including one block on pediatric inpatient wards and one in the emergency department.

A Resident-Focused Culture

The heart of our program is our residents, whose dedication and enthusiasm create an exceptional environment for learning and growth. Supported by a passionate faculty and engaged staff, our residents shape a dynamic, collaborative culture that ensures a transformative educational experience.
