Redefining women's health care
The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health at the University of Louisville School of Medicine offers to our region:
Top-notch physician educators
Our highly qualified, board-certified faculty physicians are nationally recognized for their medical competence and surgical skills. These physicians embrace a passion for education by serving as coaches, role models and mentors to students, residents, fellows and associates.
Areas of expertise
Our department provides multidisciplinary consultative health services in gynecology, obstetric care, maternal-fetal medicine, family planning, gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive surgery and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.
A patient-centered philosophy
Our patients’ needs come first. While physician trainees refine their technical competencies, we teach them by example to treat patients with sensitivity and compassion.
A real-world learning environment
Future obstetricians and gynecologists have the unique advantage of working with patients in a private medical practice as well as in an academic medical setting. This experience provides a seamless transition from trainee to practicing physician.
An inclusive patient population
Each year, physicians affiliated with the UofL and UofL Health-Hospital provide reproductive health care services to 20,000 women and deliver more than 2,000 babies. Our patients come from a broad cross section of the greater Louisville and southern Indiana population.
Intellectual stimulation
We praise lifelong learning and inquiry. Our faculty physicians and research scientists participate in basic and clinical research on pregnancy outcomes and the treatment of gynecologic cancers. This work advances our knowledge enabling our physicians to offer the latest advances in all aspects of women’s health care.
