MD-PhD Program Leadership

The UofL MD-PhD Program has a 25-year history of preparing physician-scientists for careers in academic medicine, biomedical research, clinical innovation, and leadership. In recent years, the School of Medicine has made major investments to expand and strengthen the program, increasing the size of entering classes, enhancing student support, deepening clinical and translational training and building a more intentional physician-scientist pipeline from high school and undergraduate programs through medical school, graduate training, residency, fellowship and faculty development.

Our mission is not only to train excellent scientists and outstanding physicians, but also to prepare leaders who can move discoveries from the laboratory and clinic into the communities where they are most needed. Louisville offers sn ideal environment for this training. Our students learn in a city and region shaped by major health challenges, including high cancer burden, environmental exposures, cardiometabolic disease, trauma and persistent health disparities. They also train within a university deeply committed to community engagement, translational science and improving health outcomes across Kentucky and beyond.

The MD-PhD Program designation affirms the excellence of our program and strengthens our ability to recruit, support and train exceptional students. We invite you to explore our program, meet our students and faculty and learn how UofL is preparing physician-scientists to transform medicine through discovery, innovation and community impact.
