Discovery

UofL’s scientific environment is emphasizes areas that matter deeply to Kentucky and the nation, including cancer, environmental health, nutrition, cardiometabolic disease, mental health, neuroscience, infection and inflammation. Students work with faculty across nationally recognized centers, institutes, and departments while developing the skills to lead independent research careers.

Translation

Our program emphasizes the full translational pathway: from mechanisms of disease to clinical innovation, from clinical observation to research discovery, and from discovery to measurable improvement in health outcomes.

Clinical Excellence

UofL School of Medicine provides a rich clinical environment that includes the region’s only Level I trauma center, the largest Children’s Hospital in Kentucky, the Brown Cancer Center, and  major surgical and transplant programs. Students benefit from broad clinical exposure across complex, high-acuity patient populations.

Community Impact

Community-engaged research is a defining strength of UofL. Our research focuses on the needs of underserved communities in urban Louisville and rural Kentucky. We prepare graduates to become physician-scientist leaders who can build trust, design impactful research, and improve health beyond the walls of the academic medical center.
