Department of Pediatrics faculty and staff take home numerous University of Louisville School of Medicine awards

The Department of Pediatrics received seven wins and 12 nominations at the 2025 University of Louisville School of Medicine Faculty (ULSOM) and Staff Awards. The annual awards honor ULSOM faculty and staff who bring distinction to our University through their commitment to the areas of service, education and research.

The 2025 faculty winners include:
Outstanding Research in Basic & Applied Sciences – Dr. Gregory Barnes, Director, University of Louisville Autism Research Center
Outstanding Education by Gratis Faculty – Dr. Vesna Kriss, Professor, Departments of Radiology and Pediatrics
Distinguished Service to the Profession – Dr. Kupper Wintergerst, Chief, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology
Distinguished Career of Service – Dr. Gerard Rabalais, Emeritus Chairman, Department of Pediatrics
Distinguished Service to the National/International Community – Dr. Mirzada Kurbasic, Professor, General Pediatrics

In addition, Dr. Brit Anderson, Department Advocacy Vice Chair, was nominated for Distinguished Service to the Community, the Commonwealth, and Region. 

Unit Business Manager Joy Jeffries won top honors among ULSOM staff taking home the Dean’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

2025 staff nominees include:
New Professional Award – Rebecca Mira, Faculty Affairs Coordinator, and Department Coordinators Kassie Reynolds and Kourtney Sexton
Performance Excellence – Jennifer Morgan, Faculty Affairs Manager, Kassie Reynolds, and Buffy Sexton, Department Coordinator
Heart of the School – Buffy Sexton
Well-Being & Belonging – Brittney Luckett, Medical Residency Program Manager
Cardinal Spirit – David Fichuo, Department Coordinator and Buffy Sexton
Team Impact – Jennifer Morgan

The University of Louisville (UofL) Department of Pediatrics, part of UofL’s School of Medicine, aims to provide inclusive excellence in clinical care, medical education, pediatric research and community advocacy to meet the health-related needs of children. The faculty are researchers who explore innovation in pediatric medicine, serve on local, regional and national committees and organizations while helping set standards of care and formulate new models of treatment. They are educators, focused on training the next generation of pediatricians and pediatric specialists. In addition, our faculty serves as pediatricians who provide services of Kentucky and the region through our affiliation with Norton Children's Hospital.
