Heather Felton expands access to pediatric care through social media platforms

In the height of a new digital age, Heather Felton, associate professor of pediatrics, is redefining how pediatric care and education extend beyond the clinic. As a pediatrician with Norton Healthcare and a growing presence on social media, Felton is meeting families where they already are, on screens and social media feeds, delivering trusted, accessible guidance parents need to make confident decisions for their children’s health. 

What began as a way to continue the important conversations she was having with families outside of appointments quickly evolved into a broader platform for education. “My goal has always been to translate medical knowledge into information that is accurate, accessible, and easy for families to understand,” Felton said. 

Now, with over 19,000 followers on TikTok and multiple viral videos, Felton has created a digital community where medical advice feels like a conversation rather than a lecture. By focusing on essential topics like child safety, vaccine education and injury prevention, she ensures that her large audience receives practical, evidence-based guidance that they can use in their everyday lives in a format that feels approachable and engaging. 

Much of her content is inspired by the real-life questions she hears every day during appointments. She has found that sharing these answers online reaches thousands of other families who are wondering the same things, turning a one-on-one clinical conversation into a community-wide resource for pediatric health. Her feed serves as a handbook for modern parenting, with popular videos ranging from educational lessons on jaundice and blue light therapy to practical tips on how to wean a baby off a bottle. 

In a digital landscape often driven by monetization, Felton remains committed to keeping her content completely free and accessible for anyone with a social media account. She believes that reliable health information should never be limited by cost or access. “Making that information easily accessible is especially important because not everyone has the same access to healthcare resources or the opportunity to ask questions in a clinical setting,” she said. 

This platform does more than just educate; it connects Felton directly to the collective hivemind of wondering parents across the world. By tapping into this global database of real-time concerns, she is able to identify exactly where gaps in medical knowledge exist. This allows her to respond instantly with evidence-based information, meeting parents’ fears with facts before misinformation can take root.

As an active member of the Greater Louisville Medical Society, she collaborates with colleagues across disciplines to address emerging challenges in health care and advocate for improved patient care. In recognition of her contributions, she was recently named Norton Healthcare Physician of the Year by the organization. 

At home, Felton’s work takes on an additional meaning. As a mother of three young daughters, she sees the purpose of her work reflected in them every day. She is a firm believer in the importance of representation, especially for the next generation of women in medicine.  “When young women see female physicians actively leading and educating in public spaces, it reinforces the fact that their voices and expertise belong here,” Felton said. 

Ultimately, Felton views her work in pediatrics as a unique privilege, driven by the profound trust families place in her. When looking toward the future, she hopes her legacy is defined by more than just clinical visits, but by the safety and health she promoted through education and advocacy.
