Preceptors play an important and valued role in the overall educational process for students and help them become successful practitioners and colleagues. Learn how you can become one.
The University of Louisville's Family and Geriatric Medicine Department is one of seven clerkships through which students rotate. All third-year medical students are required to do a Family Medicine Rotation. It is with our generous preceptors that we are able to find all of our students a confirmed rotation spot. Training sites are given a certificate to display in their offices to show patients that the University of Louisville has selected their site to teach our students.
In addition, fourth-year medical students have the opportunity to enroll in an AHEC elective in any discipline to give them the opportunity for experiential learning in rural and underserved regions. More recently, the ULSOM established summer primary care externships for students between the first and second years of medical school. Community preceptors play a critical role in providing these educational experiences for our students and play an important role in shaping the career trajectories of many of our learners.
