Dr. Libby Mims recognized as climate hero by Bernheim Forest and Arboretum

University of Louisville School of Medicine pediatrician and assistant professor for general pediatrics, Dr. Libby Mims, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Isaac Wolfe Bernheim Climate Hero Award. She is one of three community members honored this year for her leadership in conservation and environmental care.
Through lectures, curriculum development, and her clinical practice, Dr. Mims works to raise awareness of climate change and its impact on children’s health. She serves as the Kentucky Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics Child Health and Climate Advocates Task Force co-chair. The committee engages pediatricians in Kentucky to promote climate and child health equity through counseling during well child visits.
“Libby’s passion, combined with her skills in education and advocacy, inspires us all to learn more and do better,” wrote Dr. Julia Richerson, who nominated Mims.
Dr. Mims often advocates for environmental issues and their health implications at government meetings and public forums, mobilizing physicians to stay informed on current events affecting children and families.
Established in 2024, Bernheim’s climate hero awards recognize environmental stewards who are making a tangible impact and demonstrating meaningful action in the fight against climate change.
