Cerebrovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Stroke is most commonly associated with cerebrovascular disease, but other conditions include brain aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and idiopathic intracranial hemorrhage. Rapid identification and treatment of these diseases can not only be lifesaving but also minimize disability. Technological advances and clinical trials have made great strides in identifying and treating aneurysms, strokes and cerebrovascular diseases. This seminar will discuss updates in the care, treatment and research of these diseases.
Target Audience: emergency medicine providers, primary care providers, neurologists, neurosurgeons, nurses, physiatrists, patients/families, family medicine, APRNs, anyone handling the care of stroke patients or patients with cerebrovascular diseases.
As a result of participating in this activity, the participants will be able to:
1. List the different imaging modalities for intracranial aneurysms and identify the best one for each patient.
2. Describe the best recovery practices for survivors of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
3. Identify the steps to properly diagnose idiopathic intracranial hypertension and decide when to appropriately use venous sinus stenting to treat IIH.
