Career Changer Program
Overview
Embark on a transformative journey toward a medical career with the University of Louisville's Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med Program. This program is the first of its kind in Kentucky. It is a two-year program designed for career changers who have earned their Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university and desire to become a physician, but lack the pre-med requirements and preparation to apply to medical school. This is not a record-enhancing program for medical school re-applicants or students who have completed the majority of their pre-med coursework. We have fall admission only and offer approximately 10 spots. This program offers assured admission to UofL's School of Medicine upon successful completion. Students attend classes on a part-time or full-time basis, with flexible scheduling options. A minimum of six credit hours per semester is required and summer courses are optional.
Ready to take the next step toward your medical career?
Applications for the 2025–2026 cycle are now closed. If you're interested in applying for Fall 2026–2027, please email us to be added to our contact list. We'll notify you when new information sessions are scheduled and when the next application cycle opens.
Tailored for applicants who have completed most pre-med requirements but aim to strengthen their academic record. This track offers two options:
- Track 1: Focus on retaking or completing core pre-med classes, with added support in MCAT preparation and learning strategies.
- Track 2: Pursue a one-year non-thesis MS in Physiology to further enhance your credentials at the graduate level.
Both tracks include opportunities for clinical shadowing, community volunteering and comprehensive application preparation.
Each student has a program plan tailor made just for them. Students attend school either on a part-time or full-time basis. Students may work while in the program and must maintain a minimum of six credit hours per semester (summer courses are optional). Most classes are available morning, afternoon and evening during the week. Classes are taken with the general student population, including current undergraduate students. Our program is not responsible for the course offerings, the availability of courses or which instructor is teaching the course(s). The individual department and the College of Arts & Sciences determine that.
In addition to taking pre-med course work and preparing for the MCAT, our students participate in enrichment and extracurricular activities. This includes group service projects and volunteering, shadowing physicians, attending monthly enrichment, etc. We want to empower our students to be well rounded and competent applicants for medical school and as future health professionals.
