Research
Overview
The Pediatric Rheumatology Division's work showcases a dynamic blend of clinical investigation, collaborative research and interdisciplinary inquiry focused on complex and rare pediatric rheumatologic conditions. We aim to understand disease variability, advance personalized treatment strategies—particularly in conditions like Kawasaki disease, juvenile fibromyalgia and lupus nephritis—and highlight the psychosocial and functional impact of chronic illness in youth. We actively CARRA-led studies and global consensus efforts, while also engaging in translational research examining the microbiome and novel diagnostic tools.
As part of the University of Louisville School of Medicine Pediatric Research Institute and Norton Children's Research Institute, our faculty and fellows can access cutting-edge research resources with minimal administrative burdens. With over 200 clinical research professionals and 300+ active studies, including Phase 1-3 clinical trials, we are at the forefront of pediatric research and clinical advancements.
