Research

Overview

The Pediatric Sleep Medicine Division’s research is centered on advancing the understanding, diagnosis and management of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), with a strong emphasis on vulnerable and complex populations such as children with Down syndrome and very young toddlers. Across multiple studies, we have investigated surgical outcomes—including adenotonsillectomy and revision adenoidectomy—as well as the utility of diagnostic tools like polysomnography and lateral neck radiography in evaluating residual or recurrent airway obstruction.

Additional research has explored the intersection between sleep-disordered breathing and ADHD-like behavior, highlighting the need for accurate clinical assessment strategies.

As part of the University of Louisville School of Medicine Pediatric Research Institute and Norton Children's Research Institute, our faculty and fellows can access cutting-edge research resources with minimal administrative burdens. With over 200 clinical research professionals and 300+ active studies, including Phase 1-3 clinical trials, we are at the forefront of pediatric research and clinical advancements.
