Pediatric Residency

The pediatric residency program at the University of Louisville is home to residents from various medical schools across multiple states and countries.

Overview

Our Pediatric Residency program is designed to provide physicians with comprehensive training in both general pediatrics and subspecialties. With three progressive levels, the program increases in complexity, responsibility and opportunities for elective time.

Residents will experience a diverse, hands-on educational approach that includes:

  • Bedside training
  • Didactic sessions
  • One-on-one consultations

  • Online learning

This well-rounded approach ensures residents gain broad exposure to pediatric specialties, helping them identify potential career paths while catering to different learning styles.

  • Equip residents with advocacy skills for patients, hospitals, clinics and communities.

Our program offers broad clinical training in general pediatrics and subspecialties through hands-on, didactic and elective experiences, tailored to diverse learning styles.
Rotations
Our Pediatric Residency rotation offers diverse clinical experiences across general pediatrics and subspecialties. It prepares residents for a wide range of pediatric careers.

We practice at Norton Children's facilities, including Norton Children’s Medical Center, Novak Center for Children’s Health, Norton Children’s Hospital and Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Application and Interview Process

Each year, we accept 24 categorical pediatric residents, 2 to 3 pediatric neurology residents and 5 med/peds residents. We accept residency applications at the PGY-1 level only.

 Applicants must receive their medical degree and successfully pass USMLE/COMLEX Step I and II before the start of residency.

Foreign nationals must meet visa and medical licensure requirements for residency training.

Applications are accepted September 29 - December 1. All materials must be received by December 1 to be considered complete.

We do not have minimum board score requirements.

Applicants must have graduated from medical school within the past 2 years.
