About Us

Welcome From Division Chief

The University of Louisville School of Medicine Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation is a Top 50 pediatric cancer program dedicated to providing exceptional patient care, pioneering research and transformative education while advancing the health and well-being of children and families facing some of the most complex medical conditions.

Our mission is rooted in excellence across clinical care, scientific discovery and academic medicine. Through a collaborative environment that brings together physicians, scientists, trainees and healthcare professionals, we strive to improve outcomes for children with cancer, blood disorders and immune-related diseases. We are committed to delivering compassionate, family-centered care while continuously seeking innovative approaches that transform the future of pediatric hematology and oncology.

Research is a cornerstone of our division and an essential component of our commitment to advancing pediatric healthcare. Our faculty lead innovative studies designed to improve treatment outcomes for children with hematologic and oncologic diseases. Current areas of investigation include genomic testing for pediatric cancers, the role of the immune system in treatment-resistant childhood cancers, novel therapies for children with immune dysregulation disorders, amino acid-based therapeutic approaches and the optimization of chemotherapy and radiation strategies for children with sickle cell disease undergoing bone marrow transplantation. By integrating scientific discovery with clinical practice, our team is helping bring new therapies and precision medicine approaches to children who need them most.

As part of our commitment to advancing pediatric medicine, faculty and trainees benefit from access to centralized, state-of-the-art research resources and collaborative opportunities. Our partnership with Norton Children's Hospital and the University of Louisville School of Medicine creates a dynamic environment where innovation, scholarship and clinical excellence thrive. Through robust research infrastructure and multidisciplinary collaboration, we foster discoveries that directly improve patient care and health outcomes.

Education and mentorship are equally central to our mission. The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program at the University of Louisville is dedicated to developing future leaders in academic and clinical pediatric hematology and oncology. The fellowship provides comprehensive training in the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of pediatric hematologic and oncologic disorders while preparing physicians to become skilled clinicians, investigators, educators and mentors.

By combining rigorous clinical training, innovative research and dedicated mentorship, our fellowship prepares graduates to excel as leaders in academic medicine, clinical practice and scientific discovery. Our alumni are equipped not only to provide outstanding patient care but also to advance the field through research, education and advocacy.

We invite you to learn more about our clinical programs, research initiatives and educational opportunities, and to join us in our mission to advance the care of children with cancer and blood disorders through innovation, collaboration and excellence.
