Welcome From Division Chief
The University of Louisville School of Medicine Forensic Medicine Division is dedicated to protecting children and advancing the field of Child Abuse Pediatrics through excellence in clinical care, education, research and advocacy. Our mission is centered on improving the lives of vulnerable children by providing expert medical evaluations, advancing scientific understanding of child maltreatment and strengthening the systems that support child safety and well-being.
The foundation of our work is diagnostic excellence. Our faculty provide specialized expertise in the evaluation of suspected child maltreatment, partnering closely with healthcare providers, child protection professionals, law enforcement and legal stakeholders to ensure that children receive comprehensive, evidence-based and compassionate care. Through this collaborative approach, we strive to improve outcomes for children and families while supporting informed decision-making across multiple systems.
Our commitment extends beyond the clinical setting. The division plays a vital role in community education by providing essential training to social workers, medical professionals, legal practitioners, law enforcement personnel and other professionals who serve children and families. These educational efforts are designed to improve the recognition of child maltreatment, promote timely intervention and enhance multidisciplinary collaboration. By strengthening the knowledge and confidence of professionals across our communities, we help create safer environments for children.
We invite you to learn more about our programs, connect with our faculty and trainees, and join us in our shared commitment to advancing child protection and improving the lives of vulnerable children through knowledge, collaboration and compassionate care.
