The University of Louisville School of Medicine (ULSOM) Department of Pediatrics is proud to announce that two of its faculty members have been honored with prestigious awards at both the state and national level. Dr. Christopher Johnsrude was recognized by the Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS) honored Dr. Kristina Bryant with an award created specifically for her work.

Dr. Johnsrude, a professor with the division of pediatric cardiology was awarded the Honorable Maestro Award — the highest honor from the Kentucky Chapter of the ACC. This award recognizes exceptional leadership, mentorship, and dedication to advancing cardiovascular care.

Dr. Bryant, a pediatric infectious diseases professor was honored with the inaugural Champion of Opportunity, Representation, and Excellence (CORE) Award from PIDS. The CORE Award recognizes individuals who have advanced access and health equity in pediatric infectious diseases through their leadership, science, clinical care, or advocacy. During her term as PIDS President, Dr. Bryant was instrumental in forming the society’s first CORE Committee ensuring these principles remain embedded across all PIDS initiatives.

“These achievements highlight not only the exceptional caliber of our faculty but also the profound impact their work has on children’s health locally and nationally,” said Department of Pediatrics Chair Dr. Kim Boland. “We are incredibly proud to celebrate Dr. Johnsrude and Dr. Bryant for their contributions, their service, and their enduring commitment to advancing pediatric medicine.”

Both honors underscore the department’s continued dedication to supporting faculty who lead the way in innovation, education, advocacy, and compassionate care.
