Welcome From Division Chief
The University of Louisville Division of Pediatric Pulmonology, Allergy and Immunology is dedicated to advancing the understanding and care of complex respiratory, allergic and immunologic conditions in children through excellence in clinical care, research and education. Our faculty, trainees and staff are committed to improving the health and quality of life of children and families through innovative therapies, scientific discovery and compassionate, patient-centered care.
Our division brings together nationally recognized experts who lead the diagnosis and treatment of a broad spectrum of pulmonary, allergy and immunology conditions, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis, asthma, rare interstitial lung diseases and primary immunologic disorders. Through an integrated, multidisciplinary approach, we strive to provide the highest quality care while advancing the science that shapes the future of pediatric medicine.
With strengths in both basic and translational science, our faculty actively participate in multicenter clinical trials and collaborative research initiatives that directly improve the care of children with pulmonary and immunologic diseases. These efforts provide patients with access to state-of-the-art therapies while contributing to the evidence base that guides pediatric practice nationwide. Our faculty maintain strong partnerships with leading organizations, including the American Thoracic Society and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, reflecting our division's national leadership and commitment to advancing the field.
Our investigators pursue research across a wide range of areas, including severe asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, recurrent pulmonary infections, wheezing disorders of infancy and congenital pulmonary malformations. Through these efforts, we continue to expand knowledge, develop innovative treatment approaches and improve outcomes for children with complex respiratory and immune-related conditions.
Education and mentorship are equally central to our mission. We are deeply committed to training the next generation of pediatric subspecialists, clinician-scientists and academic leaders. Over the past three years, our faculty have delivered more than 50 professional presentations at local, regional and national meetings, demonstrating a strong commitment to scholarly engagement and knowledge dissemination. Through innovative teaching strategies, procedural skills training and individualized mentorship, we foster an environment where learners can thrive and achieve their professional goals.
Our ACGME-accredited Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship is designed to prepare fellows for successful careers in academic medicine, research and clinical practice. The program meets all requirements for Pediatric Pulmonology certification through the American Board of Pediatrics and provides a personalized training experience tailored to each fellow's interests and career aspirations.
Fellows receive comprehensive clinical training while developing expertise in research, quality improvement, medical education and leadership. In addition to extensive clinical experiences, fellows have opportunities to participate in multidisciplinary task forces, scholarly projects and institutional initiatives that promote system-wide improvements in patient care. The program emphasizes not only academic and professional growth but also fellow well-being, ensuring that graduates are prepared to become compassionate and resilient leaders in pediatric pulmonary medicine.
Our faculty are not only exceptional clinicians and investigators but also dedicated educators and mentors who invest deeply in the success of our trainees. Their diverse expertise and commitment to academic excellence create a rich learning environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration and innovation.
At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to improving the lives of children and families. By integrating outstanding clinical care, groundbreaking research and exceptional education, we continue to advance pediatric pulmonology, allergy and immunology while preparing future leaders who will shape the field for years to come.
