The University of Louisville School of Medicine (ULSOM) is pleased to announce Jeffrey Bumpous, dean of the School of Medicine, has been selected to serve as an incoming member of the 2026-2027 Administrative Board for the Council of Deans (COD) at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

The ULSOM is a member of the AAMC, a nonprofit association dedicated to transforming health through medical education, clinical care, biomedical research and community collaborations.

“Medical education is rapidly evolving and it is essential that we remain focused on preparing physicians who are equipped to meet the needs of the communities they serve,” said Bumpous. “I’m honored to contribute to the work of the AAMC and collaborate with colleagues across the country to advance that mission.”

The AAMC Council of Deans Administrative Board plays a key leadership role in guiding national priorities in medical education, supporting deans across accredited medical schools and advancing policies that strengthen the physician workforce. Through this role, Bumpous will help shape initiatives that influence how medical schools educate, train and prepare the next generation of physicians.

A nationally recognized leader in academic medicine and a respected otolaryngologist, Bumpous has led the School of Medicine with a focus on innovation, collaboration and community engagement. Under his leadership, the school has expanded programs that emphasize interdisciplinary education, workforce development and improving health outcomes across Kentucky and beyond.

The AAMC’s membership includes all 163 U.S. medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, 13 Canadian medical schools, nearly 500 academic health systems and teaching hospitals and more than 70 academic societies. Through these institutions, the AAMC represents hundreds of thousands of faculty, medical students, residents and researchers working to advance academic medicine worldwide.

Bumpous’s appointment continues to elevate the institution’s voice on a national stage, helping to shape the future of medical education and health across the country.
