Research

Research Overview

Research is a cornerstone of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division’s academic mission, with active faculty involvement in a broad spectrum of projects that address critical issues in pediatric emergency medicine and child health. Recent studies include evaluations of pediatric injury patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic, universal suicide screening, vaccine hesitancy and long COVID in children.

Other notable work explores neighborhood food insecurity and birth outcomes, the role of doulas in neonatal intensive care, innovations in medical education and the development of clinical tools and social care models in emergency settings.

As part of the University of Louisville School of Medicine Pediatric Research Institute and Norton Children's Research Institute, our faculty and fellows can access cutting-edge research resources with minimal administrative burdens. With over 200 clinical research professionals and 300+ active studies, including Phase 1-3 clinical trials, we are at the forefront of pediatric research and clinical advancements.
