Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship

The ACGME-approved one-year Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship offers expertise in complex surgery, endoscopy, laparoscopy, anorectal surgery and physiology, with optional basic science research.

Overview

Fellows from across the country and around the world are drawn to the colon and rectal surgery fellowship program at The Hiram C. Polk, Jr., MD Department of Surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine for its one-on-one faculty interaction and varied clinical and research opportunities. Our Section of Colorectal Surgery handles all types of colon and rectal diseases, including complex tertiary care cases involving re-operative surgery for inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer, as well as open, laparoscopic and robotic procedures. Fellows also gain experience in surgery for fecal incontinence, anorectal disease and a variety of endoscopic and anorectal physiology procedures.

With a broad referral base across Kentucky and Southern Indiana, our fellows train at five major teaching hospitals, all within a three-block radius in downtown Louisville. As key members of our surgical and research teams, fellows receive the personalized training needed to excel in their careers.

Each year we select two talented clinical fellows who share our dedication to caring for patients with all varieties of colorectal disease.
