The department has a robust educational foundation, featuring two residency programs and eight fellowship opportunities.
General Surgery Residency
This five-year ACGME-accredited training program is founded on several key principles: intense experience in patient care and decision-making, early operative exposure and the development of surgical science.
Plastic Surgery Residency
Our ACGME-accredited program provides graduating residents with a comprehensive clinical experience and knowledge of the basic and advanced principles plastic surgery.
Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship
The one-year ACGME-approved fellowship in colon and rectal surgery equips residents with skills in complex tertiary referral surgeries, endoscopy, laparoscopy and anorectal surgery and physiology.
Surgical Critical Care & Acute Care Surgery Fellowship
This fellowship includes a one-year ACGME-accredited surgical critical care track and an optional second-year AAST-accredited acute care surgery track for further clinical training and research.
Hand Surgery Fellowship
Founded in 1960 by Harold Kleinert, the fellowship has trained over 1400 physicians from 60 countries in hand surgery. Many have enhanced the program by introducing new ideas and techniques globally.
Interventional Endoscopy and Therapeutic ERCP Fellowship
This one-year fellowship offers extensive experience in ERCP procedures for biliary and pancreatic ducts, flexible endoscopy (EGD and colonoscopy) and complex pancreatic and biliary tract surgeries under the direction of the surgical faculty.
Pediatric Surgery Fellowship
In this two-year fellowship, the fellow works closely with the surgical team in the overall management of pediatric surgical patients including a busy trauma service and care of patients with surgically repaired congenital anomalies.
Plastic Surgery Fellowship
In this independent track three-year ACGME-accredited Plastic Surgery Program, fellows rotate through aesthetics, trauma, pediatric/clefts/craniofacial, hand and upper extremity and adult reconstructive surgery.
Surgical Oncology Fellowship
This two-year fellowship features six months of basic science research and 18 months of clinical rotations. Fellows work closely with faculty on complex procedures and post-operative care.
Vascular Surgery Fellowship
In this two-year ACGME accredited fellowship, fellows gain experience in addressing trauma, venous disorders, dialysis access issues, peripheral vascular disease and arterial pathology.
