Vascular Surgery Fellowship

The two-year ACGME-accredited Vascular Fellowship provides advanced training in managing trauma, venous disorders, dialysis access, peripheral vascular disease and complex arterial pathology.

Overview

The Vascular Fellowship is a two-year program that provides the fellow with diverse training involving trauma, venous disorders, dialysis access issues, peripheral vascular disease and arterial pathology both elective and emergent. The patient pool is unique as care is provided to those with elective procedures, as well as the indigent population, disabled and elderly veterans.

Fellows receive clinical training through six-month rotations at Norton Hospital and three months at both UofL Health - Jewish Hospital and UofL Health - UofL Hospital each year. Fellows perform initial patient evaluation, whether in the office or the ER. The fellow outlines the treatment plan for the patient and then consults with the attending physician who makes modifications as necessary.

In addition to working closely with faculty on complex procedures, the fellow provides post-operative care for those patients with the assistance of junior residents on service at each hospital. The diverse clinical interests and expertise of the faculty members allows the fellow to gain surgical experience in all aspects of vascular surgery.

While there aren't specific rotations dedicated to research, fellows can become key members of ongoing surgical and research teams. Moreover, the individualized training provides what is needed and more to successfully launch careers going forward.

We invite you to take advantage of our unique training opportunities by applying to our program.
