Our history is rooted in nearly five decades of surgical innovation, academic rigor and dedication to training the next generation of leaders in the field. Based across six affiliated hospitals in Louisville’s dynamic medical center complex, we offer an unparalleled breadth and depth in clinical experience.
Our core faculty includes five full-time surgeons, three full-time researchers and a robust volunteer clinical faculty of approximately 30 experienced professionals. Together, they provide diverse mentorship and guide trainees through complex, high-acuity cases across the full spectrum of plastic surgery.
Renowned for groundbreaking achievements in microsurgery and composite allograft transplantation—including the world’s first successful hand transplant—our research efforts continue to shape the future of the specialty. Our laboratories are consistently recognized for their productivity and innovation.
The program is designed to cultivate technically skilled, thoughtful and compassionate plastic surgeons with a strong foundation in both clinical care and scientific inquiry. Nearly 100 graduates have completed our training program, each equipped with the critical thinking and surgical expertise required to succeed in an evolving field.
